I've been doing both my whole career.
I'm Zack Bell — a motion graphics designer and video editor based in the Bay Area. I work at the intersection of storytelling and visual design, creating work that makes complex ideas feel clear and human.
I spent the first half of my career editing television — The Amazing Race, The Bachelor, Behind the Music, and dozens more across every major network. Shows I worked on went on to win multiple Emmy Awards. That time in the edit bay gave me something no software tutorial can teach: an instinctive feel for pace, story, and what makes a viewer feel something.
In 2014, I made a pivot. Motion designers used to come into our editing bays to walk us through their work — and every time, the editors would stop what they were doing and just watch. I was jealous. So I decided to learn. I founded State of Motion, built it into a studio serving Fortune 500 companies, and spent four years as Senior Motion Graphics Designer at Roku — where my work reached 145 million users. Along the way: Samsung, Google, Salesforce, LinkedIn, Nike.
Now I do both. A storyteller's instincts applied to motion design. That combination is what I bring to every project.
